CPM demands a judicial inquiry into the disappearance of Sai Krishna

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) has asked the Andhra Pradesh government for an immediate judicial inquiry into the disappearance of Gade Sai Krishna, a resident of Krishna district, citing serious concerns over the conduct and accountability of the police.

In a statement issued on Thursday, CPM Andhra Pradesh State Secretary V. Srinivasa Rao said, “Sai Krishna was allegedly brought to Vijayawada from Markapur by Krishna Lanka police personnel last month and has not been seen since. Despite the complaints filed by Sai Krishna’s mother regarding her son’s disappearance, initially the police did not respond adequately to her Supreme Court.”

The CPM leader said the explanation given by the police and the government’s action against the concerned officials had raised several doubts. Referring to the allegation of Sai Krishna’s mother that her son might have died in police custody, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said the suspension of the Circle Inspector and the department’s order raised doubts.

He argued that an internal investigation at the ministry would not be enough to uncover the full facts of the case and called for an immediate judicial inquiry.

The CPM leader further said that if criminal cases were registered against Sai Krishna, the police should have followed due process of law.

“If those charged with enforcing the law take it into their own hands and a death occurs in custody, it poses a serious threat to the safety and rights of citizens,” the statement said.
