The Mandya district police arrested a 41-year-old man who allegedly stole gold bangles kept in a car parked outside a hotel on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru highway.
Complainant Hanif, a resident of Bengaluru, left the city along with his wife on October 18, 2025 for Belthangada. At around 9:30, they parked the car in front of the hotel on the highway to have breakfast.
When they finished eating and left the hotel, they were horrified to find that their car was completely burnt. They said gold bangles weighing 51 grams were also stolen from the car.
After the Bellur jurisdictional police registered a case based on the complaint, the Mandya district police formed a special team to investigate the case.
A special team, acting on reliable information, traced and arrested the accused, identified as Veeresh (41), an auto driver residing in Davangere.
During the interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed that he stole the bracelets by breaking the rear window of the car.
The accused also allegedly told the police that the car was not on fire at the time he committed the theft. “The car appears to have caught fire later due to technical reasons,” Mandya District Police said in a press statement.
The police officers also seized the car in which the offense was committed.
Mallikarjun Baladandi, Mandya District Superintendent of Police, appreciated the efforts of officials and staff of Belluru Police Station in detecting the crime.
