The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) awarded Kochi the “City with the Best Green Transport Initiative” award.
The award recognizes the city’s achievements in sustainable mobility, driven by the joint efforts of Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL), Cochin International Airport Limited and Kochi Water Metro Limited under a project titled “Green Energy Mega Projects Powering Kochi’s Transport Sector”.
The award was received by Loknath Behera, Managing Director, KMRL, along with Sanjay Kumar, Director (Systems) and MP Ramnavas, Director (Projects), from Manohar Lal, MoHUA, during the Urban Mobility India (UMI) 2025 conference in Gurugram, Haryana.
“This recognition marks Kochi as the only city in India where all four organized modes of transport – air, land, rail and water – operate successfully under a shared framework of clean energy and sustainability,” KMRL said on Saturday (Nov 15, 2025).
