In what could be an embarrassing situation for the Communist Party of India (Marxist), A. Kasthuri, brother of former CPI(M) MP A. Sampath and son of late CPI(M) leader K. Anirudhan, will contest as the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Thycaud ward of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. Mr. Kasthuri signaled his departure from the ideology of his family members by joining the Hindu Aikya Vedi earlier this year. That’s when he said he informed his brother of his decision.
His name figured in the second list of candidates released by the BJP on Thursday. Mr. Anirudhan, who served as both an MP and an MLA, played a key role in the growth of the CPI(M) in the capital.
