Imagine booking a car for your commute and instead a Mercedes-Benz shows up at your door. That’s exactly what happened to some Namma Yatri users in Bengaluru, with the home app offering a surprise to its customers.
A video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, shows two people getting into a Mercedes-Benz – their faces full of surprise, if not disbelief. One of the passengers, visibly stunned, questions the driver about the mix-up – only to be told that it was a special surprise from Namma Yatri for a few “lucky” riders.
The video further captured the stunned reactions of the passengers who rode in the luxury car as their regular rides in the usual compact cars like the Wagon R got an upgrade.
Social networks “demand” a Ferrari
When the video went viral on social media, users flooded the comments section with a mixture of amusement and admiration.
Many praised Namma Yatri for surprising customers with such a grand gesture in Bengaluru’s busy traffic scene, while others jokingly demanded that they come for the luxury ride.
“Ferrari wanted next time,” the individual joked.
Another social media user bragged, “I’ve been booking Namma since the day they launched the app, I’ve never had such a surprise.”
“Wow, that’s seriously amazing,” said a third person.
The delight for Bengaluru residents comes days after a woman recently exposed a scam where a driver used a fake Rapido app to overpay her.
Bengaluru woman exposes Rapid driver using fake app to inflate fare
In a detailed post on LinkedIn and Instagram that went viral, a woman from Bengaluru — Meenal Goel shared how a Rapida driver tried to overcharge her for a ride using an app that looked just like Rapida’s official interface.
“New Rapido scam! So here’s what happened to us recently: We booked a Rapido taxi from Bangalore airport to our home. The app showed the price ₹532,” she wrote.
Goel said the ride was smooth and nothing seemed out of the ordinary until they reached their destination when the driver demanded a higher fare. “When we got to our destination, the driver said his app was showing ₹650 and started insisting that we pay immediately as he had another ride ahead of him,” she recounted on social media.
Rapido has since suspended the driver’s account.
