In a fresh controversy involving BRS working president KT Rama Rao and the party’s Jubilee Hills bypoll candidate Maganti Sunitha, Maganti Mahananda Kumari, mother of late MLA Maganti Gopinath, alleged that the hospital authorities denied her, her elder son and his wife a glimpse of Mr. Gopinath at Ramabeha. She demanded an explanation from KTR and Ms. Sunitha.
After appearing before the Serilingampally Deputy Collector and Tahsildar in connection with Wednesday’s inquiry into the issuance of Family Member Certificate (FMC) to Ms. Sunitha, Ms. Mahananda Kumari made these scathing remarks against KTR in the media and accused him and Ms. Sunitha of planning a plan at the ICU to deny her entry to her son.
“The hospital authorities gave standard instructions to their staff not to allow me despite being a mother. I was not even informed about his admission to the hospital. Once I was even waiting outside the ICU and happened to meet KTR. Even when I asked him to let me see my son, he closed the door and left,” she said, questioning the behavior of KTR and the hospital management.
“Is it right not to allow a 92-year-old woman to see her 63-year-old son in hospital in his final days?” she asked.
The allegations come amid a controversy over the FMC issued to Ms. Sunitha, which Ms. Mahananda Kumari has disputed, saying that Ms. Sunitha is not Mr. Gopinath’s wife. Authorities are reviewing FMC and an investigation has been conducted.
Mr. Gopinath’s first wife Malini Devi and her son Taraq Pradhumna Kosaraju had earlier filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) stating that Mr. Gopinath’s father’s only legally wedded wife was his mother and appeared before Serilingampally Deputy Collector and Tahsildar.
