YouTuber Tyler Oliveira, who claimed to have attended “India’s Poop-Throwing Festival” this year, recently released an update on his decision to release the documentary. Hinting that he had decided against releasing the planned video, he said he had been threatened by thousands of Indians over the past 2 weeks shortly after he released the Gorehabba cow dung festival trailers.
On November 7, he wrote a long note describing the reasons why he decided to cancel the release of his document. In a post on X, he wrote: “After much consideration, I have decided NOT to release my documentary about India’s poo-throwing festival… I have been doxxed and threatened by thousands of Indians over the last 2 weeks.”
Claiming that taking part in the poo festival “was the worst decision” of his life, he said: “I grossly underestimated the power of India. According to the YouTuber, the backlash and threats forced him to withdraw the release of his documentary.”
He said he wasn’t the only one targeted by threats after the trailer was released, with even his family being “attacked in ways I could never have imagined”.
He mentioned that he decided to pick his own battles and “This one just isn’t worth it,” claiming that he didn’t mean to offend Indians or their religion or culture with his latest video. “I just wanted to take part in this unusual poop-throwing festival and share it for the world to see,” he added.
He concluded the post by saying, “I request all Indians reading this to leave my family alone.”
What is Gorehabba Festival?
Gorehabba festivities are held after Diwali in the village of Gumatapura in Karnataka. The festivities are part of the local tradition associated with the worship of the local deity. The village deity Beereshwara Swamy is believed to have been born in cow dung. To honor and celebrate the occasion, devotees playfully throw and smear cow dung on themselves as part of a local ritual.
In one of the video clips shared on X on October 23, Tyler Oliveira is seen attending the festival. Another video shows him walking the streets smeared with cow dung. Although these videos have been marked as private, they can still be accessed.
