Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Slovakia: Bratislava Castle lit up with the Indian tricolor, Banaras connect and a yoga demonstration | Today’s news

Bratislava Castle was lit up in the colors of the Indian tricolor on Tuesday as a symbolic gesture to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Slovakia, highlighting the growing cultural and diplomatic ties between the two nations.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi met Robert Gafrik, who was involved in the translation of the Upanishads into Slovak. Modi called the effort an important contribution to deepening cultural understanding between India and Slovakia.

The Prime Minister also posted on X, recalling that he had earlier mentioned Gafrika on his radio show “Mann ki Baat” on 24 November 2024.

He said: “In Bratislava last night I met Dr. Robert Gafrik, who was at the head of the effort to translate the Upanishads into Slovak. His passion for Indian history, culture and spirituality is commendable.”

PM Modi witnesses yoga demonstration by school children

As the world prepares to celebrate the International Day of Yoga, PM Modi witnessed a yoga demonstration by Slovakian schoolchildren along with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini.

“President Pellegrini and I were delighted to witness a special yoga demonstration by school children from Slovakia. As the world counts down to International Yoga Day, it is wonderful to see the youth embracing yoga. We are also happy that yoga continues to unite people in the common pursuit of well-being,” PM Modi wrote on X.

They connect Banaras in Bratislava

The prime minister also visited an exhibition focused on Varanasi in the Presidential Palace in Bratislava, which presents artworks by Slovak artists who recently traveled to the Indian city. He described the exhibition as a strong example of cultural exchange between the two nations.

In a post on X, the prime minister said: “The connection of Banaras in Bratislava! At the Presidential Palace in Bratislava yesterday, President Pellegrini and I saw a fascinating exhibition focusing on Varanasi, including the works of Slovak artists who recently visited the city. Art and culture have a truly unique ability to bring people together. My tribute to all whose works were featured in this exhibition.”

During bilateral meetings with Slovakian President Peter Pellegrini, PM Modi explored opportunities to expand cooperation in several areas, including manufacturing, transport, innovation, investment linkages, energy, biofuels, digital technologies and cultural and people-to-people ties.

In a post on X, he noted that the talks covered a wide range of topics, such as strengthening cooperation in manufacturing, transport, innovation and investment ties, along with energy and biofuels. He also highlighted the significant potential for cooperation in the field of digital technologies and emphasized the importance of further deepening people-to-people relations.
