Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) is organizing an educational program on ‘contemporary political’ issues to address the wider issue of ‘depoliticisation’ among the youth in Tamil Nadu.
Party chairman Thol addressed the first session in the series on Monday. Thirumavalavan and General Secretary D. Ravikumar, both Members of Parliament.
Party sources said around 100 office-bearers from Villupuram and Vikravandi assembly constituencies attended the meeting in person and district officials from across Tamil Nadu participated online.
While Mr. Ravikumar addressed various aspects of ‘One Nation One Election’ in his speech, Mr. Thirumavalavan elaborated on the Delimitation Bill and how the exercise could affect southern states in particular.
Hot political topics
Mr. Ravikumar said that the program was named ‘The Present’. “This program is mainly intended for party workers as well as officials, who we feel need to be educated on various issues. The goal is to address the widespread depoliticization of the youth, who consume a lot of content about politics but without the right political perspective. People need to be sensitized to the pressing political issues of today.”
He said the party felt an urgent need to inform and educate people about proposed laws, central and state government schemes and inter-state issues like the proposed dam across the Cauvery at Mekedat.
Asked why the VCK had yet to “formalise” an alliance with the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) despite being part of the coalition government, Mr. Ravikumar said it would be appropriate to ask the TVK.
