Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Monday (June 15, 2026) urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to convene a high-level meeting of police officers and issue instructions to regional and district-level officers to prevent deterioration of the law and order situation in the state.

Reacting to the killing of a three-year-old child after an alleged sexual assault near Gummidipoondi, Mr Udhayanidhi claimed that such incidents were once associated with “certain northern parts of the country”. “But now they have become the order of the day in Tamil Nadu,” he said in a post on social media.

He alleged that Mr. Vijay, who used children and women extensively in his election campaign, failed to ensure their safety.

“In Salem, his party members allegedly sexually exploited over 500 women, in Alandur, another party functionary allegedly misbehaved with a widow and in Sivaganga, a female police constable was allegedly sexually assaulted,” he said.

Mr. Udhayanidhi said that even though more than a month had passed since the government assumed office, no effective measures had been taken to maintain law and order, which he claimed was “on ventilator”.

“He (Mr Vijay) should pay some attention to law and order when he finds time to buy members of other parties,” he said.

Mr. Udhayanidhi also warned that if such crimes continue to occur in the state, he will seek permission from the DMK party leadership and launch a protest.

“Monitor North Indian Workers”

We The Leader founder K. Annamalai urged the government to properly monitor North Indian workers by collecting details about them from contractors employing them in the state. In a post on social media, he said the database was necessary as the state had witnessed several crimes involving North Indian workers in recent months.

Referring to various incidents reported from different parts of the state, including the Gummidipoondi killing, Mr. Annamalai, former BJP state president, said the arrest of youth from north India in these cases raised several questions. “The police deserve credit for arresting those involved. But what plans does the government have to prevent such incidents,” he asked.

He said that a large number of people from various other states had come to Tamil Nadu for employment, but it was not clear whether the employers or contractors were maintaining sufficient details about them. “The government doesn’t regulate them,” he asked.

Mr. Annamalai said the government should collect details such as birthplaces and places of employment of workers in Tamil Nadu from employers and contractors.
