The Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on a complaint by colony representatives foiled attempts to commercialize the open space earmarked for a park and community hall in Kondapur on Friday.
In Raghavendra Colony, Kondapur, 2,000 square yards were shown as a park/community hall in the ground plan. Several people who occupied the land divided it into 10 plots with fake plot numbers and built a shed on each, HYDRAA said in a statement.
The attackers also had the land rehabilitated and secured planning permission for construction. As the residents of the colony sought legal help, on the direction of the Supreme Court, the GHMC withdrew the permission and revoked the regularization, the statement said.
Representatives of Raghavendra C Block Welfare and Cultural Association approached HYDRAA through the Prajavani program regarding the issue, on which instructions were issued by Chief AV Ranganath for field verification. After checking, HYDRAA officials confirmed that the land was allocated for a community hall or park, and later conducted an operation to remove the encroachments.
They also fenced off the land and installed signs saying it was government land secured by HYDRAA.
