The Belagavi police have arrested a police constable, who is under suspension, on charges of killing his estranged wife.
Accused Santosh Kamble assaulted 35-year-old Kashavva Karikatti, conductor of NWKRTC, at her house in Saundatti. He let her die and locked the house.
He was a police constable in Nippani. But he has been suspended, Superintendent of Police Bheemashankar S. Guled told reporters in Belagavi on Tuesday.
The police were alerted by the victim’s colleagues who discovered her absence. The offense was reported last week.
Earlier, when Kashavva was posted to Saundatti, Santosh boarded the bus in which she was serving and created a ruckus.
He tried to assault her while she was on duty. A case of attempted murder was registered and he was suspended.
He faced a ministerial inquiry.
The couple divorced a few months ago. They were married for 12 years. And they have a 10-year-old son. They argued over custody of their son.
