Collector V. Saravanan on Tuesday held a coordination meeting with officials of all government departments regarding the arrangements to be made in advance for the Vaikunta Ekadasi festival to be held from December 19 to January 9 at the Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple.
The Collector has asked the police to provide necessary security during this period besides traffic restriction for devotees. Apart from ensuring uninterrupted supply of drinking water, measures should be taken to keep the temple premises and their surroundings clean.
He said that a large number of devotees would throng Srirangam in view of the opening of Paramapada Vasal on December 30. All necessary measures will be taken to ensure smooth crowd management. Additional lighting would be provided at Amma Mandapam bathing ghat and Kollidam bathing ghat in Srirangam. Mobile toilets and temporary urinals should be located in different locations. Fire units should be deployed at convenient locations and medical teams should be deployed in temple precincts to provide free medical assistance.
Mr. Saravanan said uninterrupted power supply would be provided throughout the festival. Staff of Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. would be ready to deal with any electricity-related glitches, the Collector said and directed officials to remove disruptions and run special buses in connection with the festival.
He said that steps would be taken to ensure that all important trains stop for a few minutes at Srirangam station for three days from December 29.
Tiruchi Commissioner of Police Kamini, District Revenue Officer R. Balaji and Srirangam Temple Joint Commissioner S. Sivaram Kumar were present.
