Mohsin Naqvi has decided to bring radical changes to the PCB amid Pakistan’s cricket struggles
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has stepped up efforts to bring more former cricketers into the board’s decision-making structure, a move aimed at strengthening Pakistan cricket through greater reliance on experienced cricketing minds.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, Naqvi revealed plans to expand the PCB’s advisory panel with three to four more former international players.
Former Pakistan captains Misbah-ul-Haq and Sarfaraz Ahmed are currently on the panel, while reports suggest that former captains Younis Khan and Mohammad Hafeez have also been approached for advisory roles.

Naqvi believes that increasing the number of former players involved in key decisions will lead to better results for Pakistan cricket.
“I am meeting some ex-players in this regard because I believe that matters related to cricket should be decided by those who have vast knowledge of the game,” Naqvi said.
He stressed that he wanted the advisory group to have significant powers on matters relating to national teams, domestic cricket and management appointments.
“I want these cricketing brains to take calls on cricketing matters related to national teams, cricketing issues and domestic cricket,” he said.
NAQVI SEEKS BETTER DECISION-MAKING
Naqvi has repeatedly maintained that his primary responsibility is to ensure the PCB’s financial and administrative stability, while cricketing decisions should be left to experts. He said matters such as the appointment of captains and wider cricket policy would increasingly be driven by former players serving on the advisory panel.
“We are in contact with a lot of cricketers. When there are six or seven people there instead of three, naturally better decisions will be made,” he stated.
“I can offer suggestions, but there will be cases where they will not be followed. I have to trust them,” he said.
The latest initiative comes as Pakistan cricket continues to search for greater consistency after a period marked by frequent changes in coaching and selection structures. Naqvi has already shown a willingness to involve former players in high-profile roles, including appointing former captain Waqar Younis as an advisor and consulting a host of former internationals on cricketing matters.
By expanding the advisory panel, the PCB chairman hopes to create a more structured and expert-led system where former players play a central role in shaping the future direction of Pakistan cricket.
