‘Victory for every teacher’: Cockroach Janta Party after teacher suspended for taking part in protest gets job back | Today’s news
According to a CJP spokesperson, the suspension order issued against Sulekh Dalal was revoked shortly after the party condemned the move. Dalal, a Haryana teacher and party supporter, took part in a demonstration organized by the CJP at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on June 6.
The suspension notice was issued on Wednesday (June 10), days after the protest. However, the party later announced that the order had been withdrawn.
The CJP says the suspension has been lifted
CJP spokesperson Saurav Das shared an update on social media platform X and said the decision marks a victory for those who defend democratic rights.
“I am very happy to inform you all that Sulekha Dalal’s suspension was lifted about 40 minutes ago. Better sense prevailed. It is a victory for every teacher, student and citizen who believes that no one should be punished for standing peacefully with the youth and asking questions,” wrote CJP spokesperson Saurav Das on X.

The claim quickly attracted attention online, with party supporters hailing the development as a victory for free speech and peaceful participation in public demonstrations.
Why was Dalal suspended?
As reported by HT earlier, the suspension order was issued by District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO) Bijender Hooda.
According to the order, Dalal was suspended from June 8 for allegedly violating the rules of conduct by attending the event without prior permission from the authority concerned.
The suspension order further stated that he would not be allowed to leave his residence without prior consent while the matter continued to be heard.

However, Dalal contested the action and claimed that the suspension was linked to her participation in the June 6 protest organized by the CJP in the state capital.
She claimed that her decision to participate in the demonstration was driven by concerns for students affected by alleged irregularities in competitive exams.
As the mother of a 21-year-old student preparing for competitive exams, Dalal said she felt compelled to join others demanding accountability.
The party calls the action an attack on constitutional rights
Soon after news of the suspension emerged, the CJP’s official communications issued a strongly worded statement criticizing the decision.
The party called the action “an attack on every citizen’s constitutional right to speak, assemble, ask questions and dissent.”
“No teacher should be punished for standing with the youth of this country,” the statement added. “No citizen should be forced to choose between their livelihood and their conscience. And no government should be so insecure as to consider peaceful participation in public protest a misdemeanor.”

The party also demanded more transparency regarding the grounds on which the suspension was issued.
“The authorities must also disclose the exact reasons for the action taken against her. Vague references to ‘rules of conduct’ cannot become a weapon to punish dissent,” the party said.
The statement further argued that the right to protest, challenge authority and speak out with vulnerable groups are constitutional guarantees rather than state-granted privileges.
Dalal planned a legal challenge
Dalal had earlier indicated that she intended to challenge the suspension order in court, saying it had not clearly explained the reasons for the disciplinary action.
She confirmed that no specific justification was given and defended her participation in the protest.
“I went to Delhi only to raise my voice against our children who are being harassed because of the paper leak,” she remarked. “I just applied because I am the mother of a son who is also preparing for competitive exams.
Her remarks resonated with several students and parents who have expressed concern over the controversy surrounding the examination in recent months.
A protest focused on exam-related concerns
The CJP’s demonstration, held at Jantar Mantar on June 6, focused on alleged malpractices in the conduct of major examinations, including the NEET, CUET and CBSE examinations.
During the protest, participants demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and called for greater accountability in the administration of entrance exams at the national level.
While authorities did not publicly comment on the party’s claim that Dalal’s suspension had been lifted, the development added another chapter to the ongoing debate over public protest, rules of conduct for government employees and concerns over the country’s examination management.
