Mirwaiz Umar Farooq adds Friday sermon in Jama Masjid in Srinagar.
On Friday (October 3, 2025), the chairman of Hurriyat and the main Cashmir Main Cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was allowed to denounce the congregation prayers in the historic Masjid after three weeks. He emphasized the need to start a dialogue to solve problems.
In his sermon, Mirwaiz expressed the dismay that “he has repeatedly prevented Jama Masjid from coming and fulfill his duties like Mirwaiz.”
“These restrictions do not serve any purpose, except for emphasizing the arbitrary and perpetrability of those who want to rule by strength rather than in the spirit of democracy,” Mirwaiz said.
Mirwaiz stressed that the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir and the new Delhi “must prove the great heart and wisdom in solving problems”.
Coercion of alienation of people
“Imposing prohibitions, restrictions, ending people from government jobs, confiscation of leaders who are no longer alive, like the late Syed Ali Shah Geelati, whose old widow lives or attaching youth homes they could cross while their families continue to live there,” he said.
He said that these measures unjustly punish innocent family members and deepen their suffering. “Such pressure tactics will not solve problems. Instead, they further alienate people and create a wider bay. The heart and mind cannot be obtained by coercion, but compassion and understanding,” Mirwaiz added.
Mirwaiz said that it would continue to maintain “that the only way forward is through involvement and dialogue. Mercification measures and repeated restrictions will never bring positive results,” he added.
