New Delhi: India, the world’s leading rice exporter, is ready to supply a record amount of grain this season despite a serious flood that has damaged crops in the key farm status.
The International Grain Council (IGC) predicts that India exports a record 23.4 million tonnes of rice during the 2025-26 season, a 2% increase compared to the previous season. This increase will be supported by the strong demand of the African nations and the recent reflection in shifts of the Pacific Markets, such as Philippines and Malaysia. According to IGC, India will represent more than a third of global rice trade, which is expected to achieve a record 59.9 million tonnes.
India exported 19.86 million tons of rice in FY25 and exceeded 16.35 million tonnes in FY24.
IGC introduced its report on 22 September, which was published on the World Trade Organization website (WTO) the next day. The submission was carried out at 113. WTO Committee meetings for agriculture, scheduled for 25 – 26 September.
The projections come although the floods were influenced by the pajba and Haryan, which together represent 75% of the production of long grains in the ground. However, experts in the field claim that the Indian diversified rice belt across the Eastern and southern states will d on the total production.
“Losses in Pandjab are a problem, but the Indian production base is large and spread out, helping to compensate for regional shocks,” said Vijay Setia, director, Chaman Lal Setia and former president of the AirEa exporter.

To replace any shortcomings, it is likely that exporters of basmati rice will be able to be more sources from states such as Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, Mint reported. Airea assumed the export of Indian Basmati rice in the current fiscal year to 6.5 million tonnes, out of 6.06 million tonnes in FY25.
According to the Ministry of Indian agriculture, Paddy Sewing increased to 43.85 million hectares this season Kharif, from 43 million last year.
IGC noted that higher transmission supply and marginal downgrade in consumption increased global stocks, while carrying was hung at the historically highest level of 187 million tonnes. This ensures that trade flows remain stable and offer India the opportunity to strengthen its dominance in the export of rice.
Indian edge
The Indian competitive edge consists of its ability to satisfy more markets, according to experts in the field. The country supplies premium Basmati rice to West Asia and Europe and provides buyers throughout Africa for more affordable non-basmati rice, especially variety.
Exports believe that despite the impact of weather and political interventions aimed at protecting domestic food safety, Indian exports will continue to ascend.
IGC report also emphasized strong trends across other crops, with the prognosis of world wheat production at a record 819 million tonnes and volumes are expected to be reflected by 5% to 206.9 million tonnes. Corn production is expected to be 1,297 million tonnes, 5% year -on -year, while global imports of soy is expected to increase by 2% to 184.6 million tonnes, powered by a stronger Chinese demand.

For India, however, Rice remains the most strategically most important export commodity in the agriculture industry. Government policy continues to equalize the stability of domestic prices with export income, with analysts emphasizing that the number of IGC reaffirms the central role of India in global food security. Earth’s ability to withstand regional weather shocks and still satisfying international demand underlines its necessity in global trade.
India in WTO
In the independent development of India, it has increased its pressure on greater transparency in global trade and questioned the US, Australia, Japan and several other nations for subsidies for agriculture, Mint reported earlier.

India has questioned several US initiatives, including the additional program for assistance in disasters of $ 16 billion and the National Farm Security Plan, the document WTO September 17 showed. This step monitors that the US rejects the objections of India in a recent business dispute, which signals a new, more assertive strategy of the new Delhi to ensure that agricultural policy control is a two -way street.
