The National Medical Commission (NMC) in the support of applicants finally approved the strengthening of 450 medical seats (MBB) at universities in Karnataka for the academic year 2025-26.
This was approved by 400 medical seats at eight government medical faculties and the remaining 50 seats in Jagadguru Gangadhar Mahaswamigal Moorusavirmanath Medical College (JGMMC), Hubballi.
With this, a total of 12,644 medical seats for 2025-26 will be available in the state. In the years 2024-25, up to 12,395 seats were available.
Prasana H., Executive Director of Karnataka for Examination (Kea), said: Statu will consider 450 other medical seats.
For 2025-26, the state government submitted a NMC proposal to strengthen 850 medical seats, including an increase of 50 medical seats each in 13 government medical universities and an increase of 100 medical seats, each in two government medical universities.
In addition, there was also a request submitted to the sanction of 250 seats to establish two new government medical faculties in Ramanagara and Canacapura from Bengalur South District.
Meanwhile, the university university, such as JGMMC Hubballi and Sri Siddhatha Medical College of Tubture, also submitted NMC a request for an increase in 50 seas.
Previously, due to the lack of infrastructure, lack of faculties and other reasons, the NMC did not make a permission to strengthen the seats to any medical college in the state this year and in May rejected the state’s proposal for medical seats in May.
Recently, however, Abhijat Chandrakant Sheeth, the new NMC chairman, announced that a total of 8,000 medical seats would be reinforced at faculties across the country. In accordance with 15 government medical faculties for which the government submitted a proposal to strengthen the chair, only eight universities were strengthened by 50 seats.
The remaining seven government medical faculties were not granted any reinforcement of the chair. In addition, the new government medical faculties have not been sanctioned places designed in Ramanagara and Kanakapura.
Among the university universities considered only 50 chairs improvements were approved for JGMMC. However, the NMC refused to improve the seat submitted by Sri Siddhartha Medical College.
There are 71 medical faculties in the state and after a subtunity, NMC did not renew 200 medical seats for Jawaharlal Nezru Medical College (JNMC) of Kle, Belagavi, and it reduced one seat in the Chitradurg Medical School during the first round of the Neet-2025 advisor. For this reason, only 12 194 seats from a total of 70 medical faculties for the first round of advice were available for the state.
