Project Pat’s Son Killed in Memphis Shooting, Police Say
Memphis, Tennessee – In a tragic turn of events, the son of legendary rapper Project Pat has been killed in a shooting in Memphis, according to police reports.
On Saturday evening, 22-year-old Kentrell "Killer Kayo" Gaulden, the son of Project Pat, was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in the Frayser neighborhood of Memphis. Gaulden was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The Memphis Police Department responded to a call around 8:30 pm of shots fired in the 2200 block of Frayser Boulevard. When officers arrived, they found Gaulden suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are investigating the shooting and have collected evidence, including surveillance footage, but no arrests have been made as of yet. The motive behind the shooting is still unclear.
Project Pat, whose real name is Patrick Douthit, is a well-known rapper and member of the Three 6 Mafia collective. He has released several successful albums and has been a staple in the Memphis hip-hop scene for over two decades.
Gaulden’s death has sent shockwaves through the music community, with many of his father’s peers and fans taking to social media to express their condolences.
"Man, this is a tough one. My condolences go out to my man @ProjectPat305 and his family," tweeted Juicy J, a fellow Three 6 Mafia member. "May Killer Kayo rest in peace."
Other artists, including Memphis rapper Lil Wyte and hip-hop mogul Juicy J, have also expressed their sadness and shock at Gaulden’s death.
Gaulden’s killing is the latest in a string of violent incidents in Memphis, which has seen a surge in homicides in recent years. In 2020, the city saw a record 306 homicides, according to police data.
The Memphis Police Department is urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest.
As the investigation continues, Project Pat and his family are left to mourn the loss of their loved one.
