Talking about the rising cost of extra-curricular activities for school-goers and the expensive lifestyle of Gurgaon, one woman said that the increasing financial burden of raising a child has led many families to opt for one child.

User @alkagurha took to X, formerly Twitter, to share details of a conversation she had with a friend about her son in grade 8, suggesting the rising cost of raising children in the country. In her post, she revealed that her boyfriend had been on a spending spree recently ₹2.5 million on her son’s school trip to Japan. In addition to the travel expenses, the student was allegedly provided with an additional allowance of ₹50,000 for shopping activities during the visit.
According to the post, the student also purchased limited edition designer shoes worth ₹19,000 from Japan.
“Friend paid 2.5 lacs for his son’s school trip to Japan. Class 8. Plus 50k extra for shopping. Bought limited edition designer shoes for 19k in Japan,” she wrote.

However, spending on recreational activities does not end there. The user further claimed that the same family spent time in the area ₹90,000 for a three-night trip to Goa for their son just three months ago, with no other expenses.
