Woman ends life due to dowry harassment in Greater Noida; husband, father-in-law held

A 24-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide at her matrimonial home in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddha Nagar district after being harassed by her in-laws for dowry, police said on Monday (May 18, 2026).

The woman’s 26-year-old husband Hrithik and father-in-law Manoj have been arrested, police said, adding that they are investigating the matter, even as the woman’s family alleged that her in-laws killed her for dowry.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Shailendra Kumar Singh said a complaint was received at the Ecotech-3 police station regarding the death of Deepika, who was married to Hrithik, a resident of Jalpura village, about a year and a half ago.

Deepika reportedly ended her life on Sunday night (May 17, 2026), reportedly driven to despair by harassment, an officer said.

The case was registered on a written complaint by the woman’s father, Sanjay Nagar.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Nagar claimed, “They killed my daughter for Fortuner car and cash. I gave them Scorpio N and money on different occasions but they killed her. I want justice.”
