The most anticipated auspicious time of the year for the Umrah pilgrimage is finally here as dozens of devotees take part in the Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. Umrah visas will be issued from next Sunday, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced on May 17.
According to the Umrah season calendar, the issuance of Umrah visas will begin on May 31 and the arrival of pilgrims to Saudi Arabia will begin from June 1, 2026. Umrah pilgrims must apply for a visa through the Nusuk Umrah platform or through other licensed external Umrah agents authorized by the Ministry. Those pilgrims planning to travel on Saudi Tourist e-Visas need an Umrah permit through the Nusuk app to perform Umrah outside the Hajj season.

From June 1, 2026, pilgrims will be able to enter Mecca and also obtain Umrah permits through the Nusuk app, according to the official calendar. Meanwhile, the last date for issuance of Umrah visas is set as March 9, 2027.
The final departure date for Umrah pilgrims is April 7, 2027, with the last date to enter Saudi Arabia for the Umrah pilgrimage on March 23, 2027. Another report said Saudi Grand Mufti Saleh Al-Fawzan began his duties related to the upcoming annual Hajj pilgrimage on Sunday.

This year, the Hajj will take place from May 25 to May 27, but pilgrims began arriving in Saudi Arabia weeks before to prepare for the sacred annual pilgrimage.

The Saudi Supreme Court announced on Sunday that the Arafat stand, which marks the last day of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, will be observed on Tuesday, the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, which corresponds to May 26. Meanwhile, Eid Al-Adha celebrations will begin on Wednesday, May 27.
The official X account Haramain Info said in a post on X: “”The blessed month of Dhul Hijjah will begin tonight and Eid-al-Adha will be observed in shā Allāh. May Allāh ﷻ grant hujjāj a safe pilgrimage.”

Saudi authorities are warning people who overstay their Hajj visa
Saudi authorities have urged all pilgrims to abide by regulations for the Hajj season and warned overstayers of penalties including fines, prison terms and deportation. Authorities said overstaying a Hajj visa can be fined up to SR50,000 and jailed for up to six months, in addition to deportation.
In a recent crackdown on people overstaying their Hajj visa, Saudi security authorities arrested a total of 9,576 illegal residents over the course of a week. These arrests took place between May 7 and 13. The joint checks were carried out by security forces in cooperation with relevant government agencies, authorities said on Saturday.
Of the total number of illegally staying persons, 4,865 were violators of the Residence Act, 3,319 of the Border Security Act and 1,392 of the Labor Act. As many as 11,272 illegal residents were deported and 2,311 trespassers were referred to their diplomatic missions to obtain travel documents, while 11,226 others were instructed to complete their travel booking. A total of 1,500 people were arrested while trying to cross the border and enter the country.
