
Former President Sri Lanka Ranil Wickeretesinghehee was arrested on Friday for charging of alleged abuse of state funds, the police said.
The criminal investigation (CID) at Sri Lanka arrested Wickremesinghe in his headquarters in Colombo, where he was convened to record his statement in the investigation against him.
Former President Sri Lanka was taken into custody and is expected to be soon made before the Fort Fort court court.
Wickremesinghe, 76, was charged with abuse of state funds during a private trip to England in 2023.

Wickeretesinghe arrested – what’s going on?
According to the AFP report, Romil Wickeretesinghe was taken into custody after CID officials asked him to visit London in September 2023 to attend the ceremonial convening of his wife prof. Maithree.
“We produce it in front of Judge Fort Magistrate Colombo,” said AFP, who added that he said they stated for personal purposes that they had developed accusations for using state resources.
According to the report, former President Sri Lanka took part in the University of Wolverhampton ceremony with his wife on his way back from Havann, where he attended the G77 meeting.
Wickremesinghe previously claimed that his wife’s travel expenses had received it and that no state funds were used.
However, CID investigations claimed that the former president used government money for a private visit. During the event he was also accused of using state -funded bodyguards.
CID previously questioned its employees for travel expenses.
According to the Newswire report, the quoted or in August was questioned by former presidential secretary Saman Ekanayake and former private secretary Sandra Perer, referring to their alleged role in determining the visit.
Veteran politician is the highest political figure that has been facing arrests in recent years. WickereSinghe detention is expected to intensify control over the use of public funds by the highest officials.
Ranil Wickeretesinghe became president in July 2022 for the rest of the Gotabaya Rajapaksy period after Rajapaksa resigned after months of protests against alleged corruption and poor management.
