Southwest Monsoon is coming to Andhra Pradesh, says IMD

The Southwest Monsoon entered Andhra Pradesh on June 6, 2026 (Saturday), two days after the usual date of arrival, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati said.
In a press release, the IMD said the monsoon has advanced to some other parts of Karnataka, entire Goa, few parts of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, most parts of Tamil Nadu and some parts of Northwest Bay of Bengal, Mizoram and Manipur.
The usual date of onset of monsoon in Andhra Pradesh is 4th June. In the previous year, it arrived on May 26. According to IMD, conditions are favorable for further advance of monsoon in some other parts of the state in the next three to four days. Monsoon will touch Rayalaseem first and move northwards, say meteorologists.
Rain in Rayalaseema
Rayalaseema region received heavy rainfall in 24 hours at 8.30 am on Saturday. Manthralayam in Kurnool district received a maximum of 50 mm followed by Yemmiganur in Kurnool district and Kanekal in Anantapur district (40 mm), Nagari in Chittoor district (30 mm) and Gorantla in Sri Sathya Sai district, Kunurpi in Anantapur district, Alur in Kurnool district, Rayadurg (20 mm).
On Saturday, a strong heat wave appeared in some places, while moderate precipitation fell in other places. Between 8.30 am and 4 pm, D. Polavaram in Kakinada district received the most rainfall at 48.75 mm, followed by Rolugunta and Nathavaram in Anakapalli district (27.5 mm) and Kothakota in Anakapalli (25.5 mm).
According to AP state disaster management office, 23 mandals experienced severe heat conditions and 88 mandals experienced heat wave on Saturday. Most of them were in Anakapalli, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts. The day’s maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius was recorded at Pedaparupudi in Krishna and Kanigiri in Markapuram districts.
The IMD has issued a heavy rain warning for Rayalaseema, particularly Sri Sathya Sai, Kurnool and Anantapur districts, for Sunday (June 7). Meanwhile, a heatwave warning has been issued for isolated places in coastal Andhra Pradesh on June 7 and 8. People in NTR, Krishna, Bapatla, East and West Godavari, Eluru, Guntur and surrounding districts may experience heat waves on these two days.
