Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has called upon all political parties to take a united stand in development projects beneficial to the state. He was speaking after inaugurating the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation’s ‘Vikasana Sadassu’ program on Monday. Over the next month, ahead of the upcoming local body elections, a number of events will be held across the state to popularize the achievements of various local government bodies.
“Political differences should not adversely affect the development of Kerala. Those who sit in opposition in local bodies should also extend all possible support to development activities. But it is unfortunate that sometimes the responsible workers do not agree. The state government has not shown any political differences in providing support to all local bodies equally. No local government has recorded any complaint in this regard,” in contrast, state support from the Union is considered unfair. Mr. Vijayan.

He said that the government had taken up organizing ‘Vikasana Sadassa’ not only to review the development activities undertaken by the local bodies so far but also to make a future development plan. Programs are planned to gather public opinion, know their needs and plan accordingly.
“However, some local authorities have decided not to participate in this initiative. They should discard this limited thinking and work on formulating future projects,” he said.
Local Government Minister MB Rajesh presided over the function. Mayor Arya Rajendran attended an open forum held after the inauguration where the public raised various issues related to the city. Following a suggestion by one of the participants regarding the lack of spaces for holding free book releases or painting exhibitions for small-time writers and artists, Ms. Rajendran said that the society would henceforth make available the EMS auditorium at the head office for this purpose.
