Watch: Bengaluru traffic so bad, cyclist walks with bike on shoulders: ‘Cycle uses it to commute’ | Today’s news

Bengaluru’s traffic woes have once again become the subject of intense online debate after a viral video captured an unusual sight – a commuter carrying a bicycle on his shoulders as he tries to beat a massive traffic jam.

The clip, shared on Instagram by user Aakanksha, has resonated with many residents, who say it perfectly reflects the daily struggles of commuting in India’s tech hub. What started as a humorous post quickly turned into a broader conversation about traffic congestion, poor pedestrian infrastructure and the city’s growing mobility issues.

Cycling to beat traffic — but still stuck

Bicycles are often seen as an alternative to Bengaluru’s notorious bumper-to-bumper traffic. But the viral video suggests that even cyclists are not immune to the city’s gridlock.

The footage shows a man stuck in the middle of a long queue of vehicles. When he is unable to get through the traffic jam, he is seen lifting his bike on his shoulders and walking through the crowded road to continue his journey.

Aakanksha shared the clip and wrote, “Buddy thought he would escape traffic and Annas car and save time by cycling to work. But bro lifted the bike like RCB lifted their trophy.”

The post gained attention not only for its humor, but also for the underlying frustration that many commuters experience every day.

She further added, “Funny reel. Not so funny reality. 1 km from office to home. 1 hour there. Thousands of commuters stuck in traffic with no end in sight. Bengaluru deserves better.”

Social media is about struggle

The video quickly gained traction, with users sharing their own experiences navigating Bengaluru’s congested roads.

One user quipped: “Cycle uses it for commuting.”

Another recalled a particularly difficult journey, writing: “He was a terrible person yesterday, it took me 3 hours from HSR to Iron Hill.”

While some users laughed at the situation, others praised the cyclist for choosing an ecological mode of transport despite the challenges.

“Hero… if 20% thought like him Bangalore…. no… the world would be a better person. Btwn I use a cycle for work too,” wrote one commenter.

Concerns About Roads And Footpaths

The viral clip also drew criticism of Bengaluru’s infrastructure, particularly the condition of roads and footpaths.

One user described the difficulties faced by those who choose to walk around the city.

“It’s so crowded here! The roads are narrow, there are hardly any proper footpaths, and walking feels like an extreme sport. 🥲 If you decide to walk, you have to constantly watch your step so you don’t end up in a gutter. Most of the footpaths are broken and whatever is left has been taken over by vendors, leaving almost no room for pedestrians,” the user wrote.

A familiar Bengali conversation

Traffic jams have long been one of Bengaluru’s biggest civic concerns, with commuters often taking to social media to document their experiences. The latest viral video has highlighted yet again how residents are increasingly turning to humor to cope with the daily frustrations of commuting.
