Indian mom shares story of stranger’s kindness in Singapore subway in viral post: ‘One pushed, one helped’ | Today’s news

‘Kindness I’ll never forget’: An Indian woman exploring Singapore with her toddler on a sunny day was touched by a kind gesture from a stranger on a crowded subway. In a viral Instagram Reel, content creator Sakshi shared how the kindness of a stranger became the highlight of her journey.

Sakshi said she visited Universal Studios in Singapore on a very hot day with her child and was riding a very crowded subway. She captioned the viral video saying, “One pushed. One helped. And that’s why I’ll never forget Singapore.”

“The baby was sleeping on my shoulder and we were both sweating a lot. Then the subway came and we got on and the subway was very crowded as usual,” she said. Inside the metro, Sakshi remembered several people offering her a seat.

However, as she was about to sit down, Sakshi recounted how a seemingly healthy Indian woman aged between 35 and 40 pushed past her to take a seat. “A lady pushed me, ran ahead and sat on that seat. I noticed that she is an Indian woman and her age is around 35 to 40 years old,” she said.

Soon after, Sakshi recalled another woman offering her a seat and being very kind all the way. “She stood up and the whole time, remember, straight 15 minutes of my journey, she was constantly fanning me and my baby,” she said. “I’ll never forget this.

Sakshi thanked the passenger before getting off the subway, but the woman insisted that it was no problem. “Don’t worry it is my duty” said Sakshi. “You are raising the future generation and I know exactly how difficult it can be to travel with a child.

She concluded by saying that a small act can represent your country in a foreign land. “A small act of kindness from a stranger can define an entire trip memory,” she added.

How netizens reacted:

Social media users flooded the comments section with a debate on ‘civic sense’ and said, “We deserve all the hate we (Indians) are getting abroad.

“It’s ironic that Indians have a ‘log Kya kahenge’ mentality but never when it comes to basic courtesy and kindness,” said another user.

One user said, “It is a very unfortunate fact that most Indians lack empathy… a basic civic sense is empathy towards others and our environment. I don’t know when we will change this mentality.”

“It’s the same story every day, the lack of common sense is really frustrating,” the user said.

Several netizens praised the Singaporean, saying, “The lady’s kindness was really heartwarming.”❤️”

“Yes, Singaporeans are really very generous, especially towards pregnant women, babies/toddlers and the elderly. They observe this basic decency and kindness,” commented another netizen.

However, one user said that kindness has nothing to do with “being Indian or Singaporean. Kindness has no nationality”. “There are kind people and unkind people everywhere. What made this moment special wasn’t where she came from, but the compassion she chose to show,” the user said.
