9 killed including 3 children in road accident in Bhandara, Maharashtra; Ex-gratia of ₹ 5000 announced | Today’s news
A total of nine, including six women and three children from Chhattisgarh, were killed in a fatal accident between a truck and a Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV) in Maharashtra’s Bhandara district. The collision happened early Friday morning.
Road accident in Bhandara
According to the police, the accident took place at 3.31 am on the Lakhni-Sakoli lane of National Highway 53 between Manegaon and Pimpalgaon in Lakhni taluka.
“A Bolero hit an Eicher truck. Nine passengers in the Bolero, six women and three children, were killed in the accident. The victims were coming to Nagpur from Chhattisgarh capital Raipur via National Highway 53,” a police official said, as reported by news agency PTI.
14 injured
Meanwhile, 14 people were injured, police added.
Three other injured were taken to Sakoli District Hospital, ANI reported. The police communicated with the victims at the hospital.

CM Vishnu Deo Sai announces ex gratia of ₹5 lakhs
After the accident, Chhattisgarh government announced ex gratia ₹5 crores for the families of the deceased. in addition ₹50,000 will be given to each of the injured.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai wrote in a post in X, “Instructions have been issued to provide financial assistance ₹5 lakhs to each next of kin of the citizens of Chhattisgarh who died in a road accident in Bhandara district of Maharashtra and ₹50,000 to each injured”.
According to the latest update, a team from Government of Chhattisgarh has reached Bhandara. The team is said to be coordinating with the Maharashtra state government and local administration. It is aimed at facilitating medical care for the injured and helping the affected families, CM Deo added.
“The Chhattisgarh government team has reached Bhandara and is coordinating with the Maharashtra government and local administration to treat the injured and help the affected families. Adequate arrangements are being made in Nagpur for better treatment of the seriously injured.”
“During this difficult time, the Government of Chhattisgarh stands with the affected families with full sensitivity and will extend all possible assistance to them,” he added.
Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Vijay Sharma also reacted to the accident and expressed his condolences. He also assured that he would visit the victims on Saturday.
