Municipal clashes broke out after an inappropriate contribution to the social media in the village of Bahiyal in Dehgam Taluk in the Gandhinagar district in Gujarat late on Wednesday (September 24, 2025), which led to violence and arson, the police said on Thursday (September 25, 2025).
About 60 people were detained in connection with the clashes, another police superintendent (Dehgam) Ayush Jain said. More than 200 people were involved in the stone pelting, which left several vehicles and shops damaged and some of them were ignited. Bahial is about 38 km from Gandhinagar.
Mr. Jain said that the status of WhatsApp was published by a Hindu man who refers to the ongoing trend of social media: “I love Muhammad” and “I love Mahadeva”, angry members of the minority community and launched an attack. Around 11 o’clock on Wednesday, the crowd reportedly broke the closures of the shop owned by a man who recorded this status. The police were seriously committed and the situation was under control, he added.
