Bahraich: During the inspection, it was found that forty girls aged between nine and 14 years were limited to the toilet unregistered Madrassy, the officials said on Thursday.
The Subdivizal Judge (SDM) Payagpur Ashwini Kumar Pandey told PTI that the district administration received repeated complaints about the functioning of the illegal Madrassa inside the three -storey building in the village of Pahalware pod Payagpur then.
“On Wednesday, when we went to the inspection building, Madrassa operators initially tried to prevent us from going up. In the presence of the police, we entered the premises and found the toilet on the terrace locked,” he said.
When the door was opened by a female police staff, 40 girls aged between nine and 14 years, hiding inside the toilet, came out one by one. The girls looked frightened and couldn’t say anything clearly, he added.
SDM said that the Social Security officer Mohammad Khalid was asked to verify the registration and legality of the institution.
According to Khalid, the locals said that Madrassa has been running for about three years without registration.
“Managing and employees could not submit any registration or legality document. During the 2023 survey, 495 unregistered Madrassas were identified in Bahraich and TT seems to have escaped the survey team,” he said.
The state government has not yet issued a clear policy concerning such illegal Madrassas. While some were sealed last year, their managers received their stay from the High Court, Khalid said, adding that a new regulatory framework is expected from the government.
“During the interrogation, we asked why the girls were hiding inside the toilet, although there were eight rooms in Madrasse, which the teacher, Takseem Fatima, replied that the girls had panicated and locked inside,” he added.
He said that Maddrassa’s records are examined and orders have been issued to turn it off. “It was said that the leadership to send girls safely to their homes, and it seems that it has now come back home,” Khalid said.
Another superintendent of the Ramanand Prasad Kushwaha police said that the company has not been registered yet. “Parents, SDM or Social Care Officer have not yet appeared to us to submit to us. If any complaint is received, the relevant legal measures will be taken,” he said.
