As many as 14,077 pending court cases were disposed of during the National Lok Adalat held in Mysuru district on December 13.
According to a press release issued after the Lok Adalat, courts in Mysuru city and talukas had a combined backlog of 1,30,887 cases, of which 65,170 were civil and 65,666 were criminal. Of these, 49,645 cases were marked as legally complex. During the Lok Adalat, 26,694 cases were taken up for compromise and settlement, resulting in disposal of 14,077 cases pending in courts.
National Lok Adalat was organized under the guidelines of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), New Delhi and Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, Bengaluru to resolve pending and pre-trial cases through amicable settlement.
The report said special emphasis was given to cases of traffic challans with 50% concession offered to violators. A total of 10,41,732 cases of traffic challans were disposed of in the district, generating a revenue of ₹23,61,37,150. Besides, pending transport related cases registered in 1991–92 and 2019–20 were also disposed of with similar concession. Under this category, 116 cases were solved, resulting in the collection of ₹1.41 crore, according to the report.
Lok Adalat also played an important role in resolving family disputes where 42 couples from Mysuru city and Mysuru taluk courts settled their differences and reunited. The settlements reached during the Lok Adalat resulted in a total realization of ₹ 73.55 crore through compromise and mutual agreement, the report said.
Expressing satisfaction over the successful conduct of the Lok Adalat, Chief District and Sessions Judge Usha Rani thanked the representatives of the Bar Association, all advocates and litigants, police department and other concerned departments for their cooperation.
Senior Civil Judge Amarnath KK, Mysuru Bar Association President S. Lokesh, Secretary AG Sudheer and Judges of all Mysuru Municipal Courts were present on the occasion.
