The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) expected heavy footing during the ensuing ‘Karthika Brahmotsavams’ at the Tiruchanur Sri Padmavati Ammavari Temple to provide food to 10,000 devotees every day.
The aim is to cater to the needs of 75,000 devotees on the ninth and final day when ‘Panchami Theertham’ will be observed on a grand scale.
TTD Executive Director (EO) Anil Kumar Singhal with Joint Executive Director V Veerabrahmam and Senior Vigilance and Security Officer KV Muralikrishna inspected the arrangements made at the temple here on Tuesday. Tirupati District Collector S. Venkateswar and Superintendent of Police (SP) L. Subbarayudu also joined the team to review preparations for the annual festival, which will begin on November 17.
The team visited Navajeevan junction, Pudi Road junction on both sides of Tiruchanur besides inspecting ZP High School and four Mada streets to see their ability to withstand crowd movement.
As part of the security measures, 1,600 policemen will be deployed in and around the temple, Mr. Singhal said, indicating the presence of round-the-clock surveillance to deal with emergencies.
As a prelude to the event, a ‘Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam’ ritual was performed at the temple on Tuesday morning. Considered a purification ritual, the event witnessed a mixture of camphor, sandalwood, turmeric, cinnabar and others being smeared on the walls of the sanctum sanctorum as well as in the inner precincts.
The inspection apparently took note of Indian President Droupadi Murma’s planned visit to Tiruchanur to offer prayers at the temple on November 20. Mr. Singhal assured that ordinary devotees would remain insulated from the process of extending temple honors to VVIPs.
