Four boys hailing from Vedanthapuram village near Tirupati were washed away in the swirling current of Swarnamukhi river on Friday. One victim’s body was pulled from the water while rescue operations searched for the rest.
The boys went for a swim around 4pm on Friday but were swept away by the water as the river was in heavy rain.
On information, the Tirupati Rural Police rushed to the spot, while a team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched a search for the boys.
Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu, who reached the spot late in the evening, said drones were also deployed as part of rescue operations. He appealed to parents to keep their children away from overflowing reservoirs and rivers.
