₹ 323 sea protection wall survey begins along the Uppada coast

Experts from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras have started engineering surveys, including shoreline and bathymetric surveys, for the ₹323 crore protective wall to be built along the Uppada coast in Kakinada district.

Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Environment and Forests K. Pawan Kalyan said in a release that IIT Madras experts are engaged in technical studies and surveys of the Uppada coast for the proposed sea wall.

“The ongoing studies and surveys are part of the preparation of a detailed project report before obtaining environmental clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change for the construction of a sea wall,” Mr. Pawan Kalyan said.

The National Disaster Management Authority has allocated ₹323 million from the National Disaster Management Fund for the sea wall.
