Zimbabwe T20I captain Sikandar Raza suffered a personal tragedy when his younger brother Muhammad Mahdi died on Monday, December 29 at the age of 13. Mahdi was laid to rest at the Warren Hills Cemetery in Harare on Tuesday.
The Zimbabwe Cricket Board revealed that Raza’s brother was born with hemophilia, a rare genetic bleeding disorder in which the blood does not clot properly. Zimbabwe Cricket said in a statement that Mahdi lost his life due to recent health complications.
Zimbabwe Cricket has expressed its condolences to Raza and his family on the untimely death of Mahdi.
“Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) extends its sincere condolences to Zimbabwe T20I captain Sikandar Raza and his family following the untimely death of his beloved younger brother Muhammad Mahdi who passed away on 29 December 2025 in Harare at the age of 13. December 2025 at the Warren Hills Cemetery in Harare The ZC Board, management, players and staff stand united in solidarity with Sikandar Raza at this extremely difficult time and his family, may Allah grant them comfort and strength and may the soul of Muhammad Mahdi rest in eternal peace,” Zimbabwe Cricket said in a statement.

Raza was last seen in action for Sharjah Warriorz during the ILT20 2025 campaign where he played 10 matches scoring 171 runs and picking up 10 wickets. Despite his all-round efforts, the Warriors failed to make the playoffs after finishing bottom of the table with three wins from 10 games.
Raza will be seen in action during the T20 World Cup in February when he will lead Zimbabwe. The African nation is grouped alongside Australia, Sri Lanka, Ireland and Oman. They will begin their campaign against Oman on February 9.
