Zateen Garg Death: Police arrested the main organizer of the festival of northeast India (NEF) Shayamcan Mahanta and Zateen Garg’s manager Siddhartha Sharma in connection with the death of the late singers in Singapore last month, the officials said.
Shyamcan Mahanta was arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Nový Delhi after his arrival in the country from Singapore. On the other hand, Siddhartha Sharma was detained from an apartment in a gurogram.
According to a report, the PTI citing a higher police officer, Mahant and Sharma were brought to Guwahati early on Wednesday.
The Assam government has set up a special investigation team (SIT) consisting of 10 members to explore the death of the Zateen Garg in Singapore for drowning in the Sea of 19 September. Sit led by a special DGP Gupta issued a notification of several people in connection with the case.
SIT issued a announcement of Mahanty, Sharm and members of Singapore Assam Association and those who went to Singapore at the Zateen Garg festival to appear before it and record their statements.
The main minister of Hisant Biswa Sarma said earlier that against Mahanta and Sharm, a “search notification” was issued via Interpol and asked them to appear before CID until October 6.
Gaurav Gogoi urges PM modi for urgent probe
On Tuesday, the President of the Congress of Assam Gaurav Gogoi wrote Narendra Modi, who was looking for a transparent and urgent probe until the death of the Zateen Garg.
In his letter, Gogoi asked the Prime Minister to ensure that the investigation carried out by a special investigation team (SIT) was located under direct monitoring and review of the Prime Minister’s office (PMO).
“I want to draw your kind attention to the delayed and insufficient investigation of the premature and tragic death of our beloved cultural icon, Zateen Garg, who died in mysterious circumstances 19 September 2025,” he read the letter.
Main Minister Assam Himanta Bisw Sarma also stated that the state government asked the Ministry of the Interior to provoke a contract for mutual legal assistance with Singapore to ensure the full cooperation of the authorities in the event of the death of the singer Zateen Garg.
Zateen Garg died in Singapore 19. September after diving a diving accident. At the time of his death he was 52 years old.
