India Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal finally broke his silence on his divorce saga with Dhanashree Verma. Duo, married for almost five years, was awarded the divorce of Bombay High Court 20 March. Chahal spoke of his relationship with his ex -wife and said he had suicidal thoughts in the last few months.
Chahal spoke at Raj Shamani’s podcast and said he had anxiety attacks and asked for a break from his state cricket team during the Vijay Hazare trophy, which took place in December-Last (2024–25).
“I got anxious attacks, I was depressed. I had suicidal thoughts, I watched so many things about myself on social media. I wanted a cricket break. I started trembling because of anxiety, yet I sweat, even though AC was turned on,” Yuzvendra Chahal said.
Spinner explained the reason for the break -up of their marriage and said they were not compatible in the end. Chhal said that the duo came into a relationship with different expectations, and the marriage suffered after he could not give his wife a lot of time because of his cricket commitments.
“The relationship is like a compromise. If you get angry, the other has to listen. Sometimes the nature of two people does not match. I played for India, also did my thing, we couldn’t meet much. It happened for 1-2 years,” Chhal said.
“At that moment I was so much of time in my work. I wasn’t able to think about the relationship. And when it happens every day, you think, leave it. Two ambitious people can stay together. Everyone has their own lives. Everyone has their own goals. As a partner, you have to support.
Yuzvendra chahal on his red flags
Spinner was asked for his own bad features in a relationship. Chhal explained that he could not express himself well, which turned out to be a problem. Spinner, however, added that he was working on it and trying to be a better person for his partner.
“My red flags are that I’m not talking much, I don’t say much and work on it. I don’t express sadness and happiness well. When you’re sad, you think the person before you should be sad too.
Spinner was criticized by part of the social media for looking happy and allegedly accepting kicks for his ex -wife. The criticism stems from the T -shirt he wore during his divorce submission.
Chahal claimed he was happy because he passed the worst phase of his life and had every right to be happy.
“When I divorced, I was happy. I think some people had to be jealous of it.
