India drop Yuzvendra Chahal has taken social media by storm after a video went viral in which the Punjab Kings spinner was allegedly caught smoking and dropped a cigarette while driving. A video captured by another commuter who was traveling in another vehicle showed Chahal behind the wheel.
Chahal, who last played for the Indian national team in 2023, is currently part of the Punjab Kings franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, the timing of the video was not known. Another person, whose identity is not known, was sitting next to Chahal.
In the video, Chahal was seen taking a drag from his cigarette and then dropping it on the road before driving away. The video instantly went viral on social media and netizens criticized the cricketer for having zero civic sense.
“Meet Yuzvendra Chahal, caught smoking a cigarette and carelessly throwing it on the road. All this money and still no class, no civic sense. Disgusting,” said one user on X (formerly Twitter). “It’s so called celebrities and we expect the public to have civic sense? This country is not going to fix itself anytime soon,” another user added.
“No wonder HE WAS KICKED OFF THE TEAM…..NO DISCIPLINE AND CIVIC SENSE,” the user wrote. “Smoking is one thing, but throwing cigarette butts on the road is absolutely unacceptable,” added another.
Yuzvendra Chahal Quits Alcohol
While his cigarette video went viral, Chahal only revealed his decision to quit drinking to take care of his body a month ago. The 35-year-old motorcyclist tried to prioritize his fitness and set an example for younger players.
“This year, my mind told me to take care of my body first. And I have good news for you: I have stopped drinking alcohol,” Chahal said in an interview with his former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) teammate Abe de Villiers on his YouTube channel.
“It’s been more than six months now. I’m 35 now. I want to be more active and give 150 per cent to my team. As a senior bowler, when I go to the IPL, I want people to see me and think ‘we have to learn something from him’,” Chahal, who is the all-time highest wicket-taker in the IPL.
