Chahal says down with dengue fever, chikungunya
Last week, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal said he had been diagnosed with dengue and chikungunya, forcing him to miss the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final between Haryana and Jharkhand in Pune.
Although Chahal took to social media to wish his teammates luck, his absence proved disastrous for Haryana.
“I wish my Haryana team all the best for the SMAT finals. Wished to be a part of the team but unfortunately down with dengue and chikungunya which really took a toll on my health. Doctors have asked me to focus only on rest and recovery. I will be back on the field soon and bowling at full strength,” Chahal tweeted.
Haryana struggled with the ball and suffered a 69-run defeat to Ishan Kishan-inspired Jharkhand.
During the match, India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Kishan convincingly proved his T20I appeal with a fighting hundred to power Jharkhand to their maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title.
Kishan went for six and smashed 10 maximums en route to a breathtaking 49-ball 101 as Jharkhand piled up an imposing 262 for 3.
The win marks a historic milestone for Jharkhand cricket. Led by Kishan’s combativeness and supported by a cohesive bowling unit, the side proved to be the dominant force on the day and took advantage of the absence of Haryana’s star spinner to claim their maiden T20 crown.
