Yuva Morcha protest to Kerala CM’s official residence over PSC exam ‘anomalies’ turns violent

Violent scenes were witnessed at the Devaswom Board junction in the state capital after a protest march by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), to Cliff House, the official residence of the Kerala Chief Minister, on Friday (264 July 200).

The BJYM marched to the official residence of Chief Minister VD Satheesan and accused him of not taking concrete action on the alleged anomalies in some examinations conducted by the State Public Service Commission (PSC). The Yuva Morcha alleged double standards on the part of the Chief Minister while participating in a protest led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in Delhi demanding action against NEET paper leaks.

When the march was halted at the Devaswom Board junction, the protesters tried to scale the barricades, prompting the police to use water cannons to push them back. The protesters refused to disperse despite the police firing several rounds of water cannons.

Later, leaders including BB Gopakumar MLA and BJP state general secretary S Suresh addressed the protesters.

The protest is seen as part of the BJP’s attempts in several states to counter the student agitation led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in Delhi, which is supported by opposition parties including the Congress.

Two days ago, the BJP organized a similar protest march to the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram.
