The Jan Urban Space Foundation Foundation (JUSP) proposed to the Karnataka government to transform Bengalur to storage standards, similar to those in the central business district (CBD), as part of a project entitled Walkvable Bengaluru.
In a letter addressed by the representatives of the Chief Minister and Minister of Development Bengaluru DK Shivakumar, the foundation demanded system reforms that prefer walking, safety, availability and sustainable road infrastructure throughout the city.
JUSP, which is based on its selection experience, imagines that they upgrade all 1,683 km of arterial and sub-arterial roads to standards for management, including organized underground services by 2035.
The proposal outlines the gradual development of 11,200 km of collector and local roads within the “Tendersure Lite” model, starting at least five km in each department.
A key part of the plan is the transformation of the 60 km long outer circular road (ORR) into a model corridor. With the construction of 30 metro stations along the blue line (Central Silk Board to KEPEGOWDA International Airport via Kr Puram), JUSP sees a unique opportunity to convert ORR from a high -speed vehicle on a multimodal street -oriented street.
In the ORR section, the design imagines smoother traffic flow by uniform lanes and constructions of the intersection, increased walking and safety with shaded sidewalks and cycles, infrastructure prepared for EV, well planned parking and efficient rainwater management.
The Foundation urges the government to announce and enforce standards of designing and implementation of proceedings. It also recommends that each of the five newly created corporations set up urban design cells with planners, designers and experts, while specialized road maintenance teams have formed in utilities. The proposal also includes a certification program based on skills for engineers and suppliers, supported by gradual training, repetition courses and official certification.
To finance the initiative, JUSP proposes to explore mixed finances, partnership of public and private sectors and green bonds. It also recommends creating a reserved technical team within the B-Sile to coordinate the proposal, compliance with regulations and management of programs.
