The YSR Congress Party’s campaign to collect a million signatures against the state government’s alleged plan to privatize government medical colleges has gained momentum in Tirupati and Kadapa districts.
Kadapa MP YS Avinash Reddy took the lead in the campaign, personally affixing his signature and appealing to the public for support. He criticized the NDA regime for systematically rolling back the achievements of the previous YSRCP government, citing the latest example of government medical colleges. “These colleges are supposed to serve the poor in the public system, but they are being hastily privatized to benefit only a few, making medical education unaffordable for many,” he said, warning that the decision would derail poor students’ dreams of medical education.
In Tirupati, party assembly constituency coordinator and former Bhumana deputy mayor Abhinay Reddy spearheaded the campaign, engaging with the public and collecting signatures.
Recalling that the TDP regime under the leadership of Mr. Chandrababu Naidu had not set up a single medical college in the last 14 years, Mr. Abhinay criticized the NDA government for spreading misleading claims that the colleges were not fit to open despite their readiness.
