YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) General Secretary (Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare) MVS Nagi Reddy urged the state government to adopt a humane approach and immediately provide input subsidy to all farmers affected by Cyclone Montha without imposing any restrictions.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters on Tuesday, Mr. Nagi Reddy accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of continuing the “anti-farmer” policy by understating crop loss figures and denying due compensation.
He alleged that the government deliberately minimized loss estimates to avoid paying relief. It was “shocking”, he said, that farmers were told their crops would not be purchased if they registered for the input subsidy. “When farmers suffer due to natural calamities, it is the basic duty of the government to ensure procurement and support,” he said.
Recalling the previous YSRCP government’s record, Mr. Nagi Reddy said that ₹99,734 crore was directly credited to farmers’ accounts through various welfare schemes, while ₹7,802 crore was disbursed under the free crop insurance scheme to benefit 54.55 lakh farmers. “Agriculture flourished like a festival under YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, but now the industry is in crisis,” he observed.
He further alleged that the present government failed to deliver the promised ₹20,000 under the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme and paid only ₹5,000 through Rythu Bharosa. The current crisis – characterized by widespread crop losses in 24 districts and fodder shortage in Rayalaseema – was the worst in two decades, he said.
Mr. Nagi Reddy demanded that the government stop manipulating the data and extend full compensation and procurement support to all affected farmers. “If humanity means anything, it’s time to stand with them,” he said.
