YSRCP, TDP engage in war of words over quartz mining in Nellore

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) engaged in a war of words over quartz mining in Nellore district.

Former Minister and YSRCP Political Affairs Committee member P. Anil Kumar Yadav, who made a sudden appearance in the district’s political scene after a long hiatus, accused TDP MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy of controlling the quartz mining syndicate in the district.

He went a step further and claimed that an international syndicate was involved in the quartz mining. The YSRCP leader even showed documents related to the MP’s visa correspondence and foreign visits and demanded that the government prove their authenticity and present the facts to the public.

In response, Nellore Deputy Mayor P. Roop Kumar Yadav rubbished the allegation, pointing out that Mr. Prabhakar Reddy had retired from the quartz business a long time ago and that he had no role in the alleged syndicate.

He clarified that the MP had written to the Union Ministry of External Affairs in 2024 to help a Chinese national in visa processing for a legitimate quartz sand processing plant proposed at Nellore at a cost of ₹1,000 crore.

Noting that the Chinese national had been running a legal business in the district for the past 26 years, the TDP leader dismissed Mr. Anil Kumar Yadav’s allegations.

Mr. Roop Yadav, a close relative of Mr. Anil Kumar Yadav, pressed him to prove his “wild allegations” or face public wrath.

Refuting the allegations, TDP Nellore district president and MLC Beeda Ravichandra said that Mr. Anil Kumar Yadav would soon lose relevance for his “free speech”.

Meanwhile, former Kovur YSRCP MLA Nallapureddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy demanded that Mr. Prabhakar Reddy clear the air of the allegations.
