YSRCP MLCs, led by Botcha Satyanarayana, addressed the media on the assembly premises on Tuesday.
Members of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Tuesday staged a protest in the Legislative Council demanding an adjournment motion on the alleged supply of adulterated ghee to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) for preparation of laddu prasadam.
MLCs KRJ Bharat and Sipayi Subramanyam invoked Article 58 of the Council’s Rules of Procedure and demanded that the scheduled activities be suspended so that the issue could be addressed.
However, Council Speaker Koyye Moshenu Raju informed the House that the adjournment motion was not accepted.
Leader of Opposition in the Council Botcha Satyanarayana said one of the companies involved in supplying ghee to TTD before 2019 had business relations with Heritage Foods Limited, owned by family members of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
He alleged that between 2014 and 2019, Maharashtra-based Indapur Dairy and Milk Products Limited supplied ghee to TTD and had links with Heritage Foods. He further alleged that despite being disqualified for six months due to quality issues, the firm was allowed to continue supplies during Mr. Naidu’s earlier tenure as Chief Minister.
YSRCP members accused Mr Naidu of dragging TTD into controversy for political and financial gain and said they would allow normal business only if discussion was allowed.
Agriculture Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu, Housing Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy and Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad refuted the allegations and claimed that Heritage Foods had no direct or indirect role in the ghee supply issue.
Mr. Atchannaidu challenged the opposition to provide a single piece of evidence and alleged that the YSRCP lacked the moral basis to discuss TTD matters. He further said that the ongoing SIT probe had already found adulteration of ghee supplied between 2019 and 2024 under the YSRCP regime and that former TTD chairman YV Subba Reddy had acknowledged the findings.
Mr. Atchannaidu also alleged that YSRCP President and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy disrespected Hindu faith by not giving a statement while visiting the Tirumala temple.
Mr. Parthasarathy accused the YSRCP of deliberately disrupting proceedings for political mileage by associating Heritage Foods with the controversy.
As protests continued throughout the day, the Speaker adjourned the House, with only limited legislative business taking place.
