YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders on Friday demanded immediate suspension of Machilipatnam Circle Inspector (CI) for allegedly using “inappropriate language” against party coordinator Perni Krishnamurthy and called for strict disciplinary action.
Krishna District YSRCP President Perni Nani along with former legislators Kaile Anil Kumar and Simhadri Ramesh and party coordinators including Mr Krishnamurthy, Chakravarthi and Uppal Ramesh at a press conference at the party office alleged that some police officials had exceeded their powers.
“Politically Charged Remarks”
Mr Kumar criticized CI Parameswara Rao for making “politically-tinged remarks” and using “abusive language”, saying such behavior was unbecoming of a police officer. He also claimed that the state had descended into “lawlessness” under the current government, with dissenting voices suppressed.
Another former YSRCP legislator Mr. Simhadri Ramesh reiterated the demand for suspension of the CI and accused the police of trying to justify the misconduct through press briefings. Meanwhile, Mr Uppala Ramesh alleged that the police were acting as “agents of the ruling party”, while Mr Chakravarthi described the incident as a “deliberate provocation” aimed at silencing the opposition.
Meanwhile, the leaders said they would continue to interrogate “corrupt” policemen, saying no amount of alleged fake cases would deter their fight for the people.
Police intimidate citizens: Nani
Mr. Nani alleged that the police personnel supported the ruling party and intimidated the citizens, which he described as “shameful”.
He also demanded that the authorities submit demand letters regarding the recent demolition drives in Machilipatnam constituency where hundreds of houses and structures were reportedly razed.
Leaders raised further concerns and questioned why CCTV footage of the nursing student case was not released, suggesting a lack of transparency. They argued that such actions erode public confidence in the police system.
