YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders and cadres held a huge rally in Tirupati on Wednesday to protest the government’s move to develop government medical colleges under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
Cadres led by former deputy mayor and constituency in-charge Bhumana Abhinay Reddy attended the rally in large numbers, calling it “direct privatisation”. Many wore turbans, scarves and even blue, white and green clothing representing the colors of the party.
Tirupati BR Mayor Sireesha Yadav, former MLC Yandapalli Srinivasulu Reddy participated in the rally which started from Korlagunta junction and ended at the RDO office where the leaders made a representation to the official.
Mr. Abhinay Reddy termed it as a clear attempt to deprive colleges of autonomy. The leaders called it an “act of treachery” and wondered how the poor and marginalized could get free treatment when private companies were involved in running government hospitals.
Similar rallies were held in Tirupati parliamentary constituency in Srikalahasti, Satyavedu, Sullurpeta, Venkatagiri, Gudur and Sarvepalli.
