YouTuber booked for alleged drunken driving

The Kumbala police have registered a case against social media influencer and YouTuber SR Dhanya (28) of Perumbala for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and attempting to evade vehicle inspection on State Highway 66.

According to police, the incident took place around 2 am on July 1 during a routine vehicle check at Anangoor on NH 66. Police said they noticed a car parked haphazardly in the middle of the highway. When officers proceeded to check the vehicle, the driver allegedly sped off without stopping in an attempt to avoid the check.

The vehicle was allegedly driven in a manner that endangered the lives of other road users. After a chase, the police intercepted the car near Bhagavathi Nagar in Bandiyod. Police said Dhanya was under the influence of alcohol and a breath test confirmed it.

The vehicle was subsequently impounded after the police issued a notice under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The Kumbala police registered a case under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act and Sections 132(1), 179 and 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
