YouTube added new artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to creators on Thursday. The video streaming platform announced that Google’s VEO 2 AI model has been integrated with Dream Scream capabilities. The new video generation model also adds the ability to generate independent AI videos by users. The company said the tool could be used to add material that is not readily available or to bring imagination into reality. It is worth noting that Dream screens can only allow creators to add video backgrounds using AI.
YouTube Shorts Now Allow Users to Generate AI Videos
In a blog post, the video streaming giant emphasizes that it integrates Google DeepMind’s latest video generation model, VEO 2, with Dream Screams. With this feature, users can generate separate videos for use in shorts. It is worth noting that YouTube shorts are the short vertical scrolling video interface the company launched in 2020.
The company said the feature is designed to help creators on the platform generate footage that is not easy to find. The tool is a text-to-video generator, so users can simply describe their needs, while the VEO 2 AI model will generate it.
The latest video generation model VEO 2 was launched in December 2024 as the successor to the VEO AI model. At launch, DeepMind said VEO 2 made significant improvements in the details and realism of generating videos. AI models are also better at photography and can understand genres, lens types, movie effects, and camera movement.
To generate videos using VEO 2, the user will first have to turn on the shorts camera and click Add to Open the Media Selector and click create On top. There, the user will see a text field where you can add a prompt. Once they are finished, they can select the style and click Create a video and select the desired length.
YouTube says it will add synthetic watermarks to all AI-generated video clips to help mitigate the risk of deep odor. It is worth noting that the video generation feature is currently only available in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States.
