Youth held for assault on Aryanad SHO

The Aryanad police arrested a youth for allegedly assaulting Station House Officer (SHO) C. Devarajan with a steel stool and injuring his head. The accused has been identified as Yadhukrishnan (23) of Kulappada in Uzhamalakkal. The accused, a social media content creator, allegedly entered the Ariad police station premises late on Saturday with a bottle of liquor and vandalized a parked police jeep.

The damage to the vehicle was calculated at almost 15 thousand crowns. The accused is suspected to have been heavily drunk at the time of the incident.

The SHO, who was in the police quarters, was soon informed about the incident after which the accused was admitted to a nearby hospital. When the police tried to restrain him, the accused ran into the doctor’s cabin. He continued abusing the officers and assaulting the SHO with a stool. The officer sustained injuries requiring at least five stitches and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kattakkada.

The accused was booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) including Sections 109(1) (attempt to murder), 121(2) (voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant to deter him from performing official duties), 118(1) (voluntarily causing bodily harm by means of dangerous weapons or means) and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act198.
